Affordance project schedule for the last 8 weeks

Schedule

  • week 6: develop project proposals
  • week 7: present proposals thursday morning (*see below for what should be in the proposal)
  • week 8: work on projects
  • week 9: show 1st prototypes
  • week 10: work on projects
  • week 11: final prototypes
  • week 12: refine prototypes, begin documentation
  • week 13: final documentation & create presentation
  • week 14: present projects & ideas to program

Project proposals for week 7 should consist of the following:

  • A presentation that presents the ideas
  • A post on this blog of relevant material – put in your project category
  • Visuals to give an idea of the potential forms and designs of the projects
  • Rough scenario(s) and/or use patters
  • The kinds of demos you propose, e.g. video, scripted/wizard of oz, working prototype
  • Description of what equipment, platforms, software you will likely need
    • oracle, 32″ touch screen, touch tablet, projection, iPod Touch, etc.
    • wireless sensors, make controller, etc.
    • phil’s help with XXX kind of programming

week 1
+ get space organized – each student will have a desk in the NET Lab, but keep in mind that as the project moves forward, we may re-arrange everything to make space for our experiments. you’ll also have a regular desk out in the studio area.
+ RAs will present their individual research interests
+ Review what an affordance is, and what a taxonomy is

+ Brainstorm and refine list of affordance things we’ll look at

+ Begin taxonomy analysis with sub-sets of things to analyze assigned to individuals

week 4
+ Brainstorm about affordance experiments to run in parallel with taxonomy work
+ Define target activities

week 5
+ Continue work

week 6
+ Bring in designers to discuss affordance and design
+ Visit designers’ studios to observe them in action

week 7, 8, 9, 10
+ continue work

+ wind-down research and begin documentation
